Magazine Department Pages

In this class students were learning to create all the different parts of a magazine publication, the second part of which was designing department pages. Students must choose a theme and create pages which include text as well as visual elements. At least one element has to be included that does not conform to the text columns or baseline such as charts, pull quotes or timelines.

I chose to focus my pages on video streaming and the increasing importance of the business around it. At the time of creation Amazon Prime’s “Rings of Power” series had just been released so that show was the focus of the story. To populate the smaller stories of the pages I also researched several aspects of the growing streaming market. Two topics I focused on were the diversification of streaming platforms over the years as well as the increasing budgets for streaming only productions. Assets were prepared using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator with the final layout being done in Adobe InDesign.
